As an active society, UNSW Marketing Society (MarkSoc) hosts a series of events over the two semesters of University of New South Wale's (UNSW) academic calendar. We hold and promote these events for two primary objectives, (a) to foster an active community to create greater spirit within UNSW and (b) to bring students in contact with industry professionals. For more information about what UNSW MarkSoc stands for, please refer to our About Us page.
These are proposed events to be held over the two 13-week semesters.

O-Week stall
One of the most anticipated events of the university year is Orientation Week – the "first" week of the university semester which gives students an opportunity to learn about UNSW; its campus, life, social activities, clubs and societies as well as a preview of what to expect in the coming weeks.
Our O-Week stall will aim to generate awareness and interest of both MarkSoc and marketing as a potential major among new students heading into their first year of university. It will also allow MarkSoc to reconnect with existing students in order to enhance the activity among students.
Beach BBQ introduction event
The Beach BBQ event is a socially focused event that introduces the executives of MarkSoc and all marketing students with each other in an informal and fun environment. The main aim of this event is to foster a sense of community and provide a taster for what marketing society and its event will be for the remainder of 2009.
Graduate information session
- (March/April around application dates)
The graduate information session gives firms looking to recruit graduates for 2010 an opportunity to connect with students through a direct and face-to-face point of contact. With many marketing students looking to gain employment with highly reputable firms, such an event allows participating firms to present the benefits of working for such a company in an interactive manner; supplementing other communications such as websites and emails. The opportunity for students to ask questions and meet prospective employers makes this a must-have event.
Marketing-in-motion
Marketing-in-motion is an informal debate and forum style presentation concept allowing organisations to put forward their thoughts and ideas on what marketing has to offer especially in their areas of specialisation. This offers students a unique insight into the dynamic world of marketing on a fun and intimate level.
By combining the client and agency sides of marketing, students have an opportunity to learn more about what they are interested in as well as get a first-hand insight into what goes on and potentially discover new aspects of marketing they never before knew.
The debate will be followed by an interactive panel discussion, students will be able to ask questions on things they may have heard previously or would like to learn more about.
Internship speed-dating session
The internship speed-dating event is a new and exciting concept that seeks to dramatically enhance the recruitment process for internship programs (during the summer of 2009/2010). The speed-dating session extends the idea of speed to students and employers looking to gain work experience through an internship position. This event will bring together firms who engage in a variety of marketing functions in order to appeal to students with different interests in the dynamic area that is marketing. Each student will be given 3 minutes to talk with employers about themselves and essentially give their "elevator pitch" to maximise their chances of acquiring an internship.
This event presents the opportunity to identify potential candidates for such positions that simply go beyond the resume and academic transcript. The chance to talk on a one-to-one level is invaluable for both students and companies.
End of year social
The end of year social is an event focused on giving students a chance to relax and enjoy what is to be a fantastic year. It will allow them to connect with each other in a relaxing and fun environment rather than focus on exams and assessments.
The end of year social will allow students to mix with each other and meet new friends. For sponsors, it will allow them to increase their exposure and awareness of products to students through the right to distribute samples and logo displays.
*Competitions/Case studies
- (Dates vary upon sponsor)
On-campus competitions and case-studies provide students with the opportunity to extend their theoretical understanding of marketing and apply it to real problems faced in all facets of the marketing world. It offers participating students the chance to explore the discipline on a more practical level to gain experience beyond the classroom and the results can be truly rewarding.
By offering the chance to run competitions on-campus, participating sponsors will have the opportunity to share in the talent and increase their exposure and awareness among of UNSW marketing students.
